This notice explains what information is collected through this website and newsletter ("the Site"), how it's used, and the choices you have. This Site is a personal project, not a company, so this notice is intentionally short and plain-English.

1. Who is responsible for this data

This Site is operated by an individual, not a business entity. I'm the "data controller" for any personal information described below. (I don't publish my personal name on the Site, but I'm reachable at the contact email above.)

2. Information I collect

a) Email address (newsletter signup)

If you subscribe to the newsletter, I collect your email address through my email service provider, HubSpot. HubSpot processes and stores your email on my behalf so I can send you newsletter issues, and may also log standard engagement data (e.g., whether an email was opened or a link was clicked) as part of its normal service.

I don't collect your name, location, or any other personal details as part of signup unless you choose to include them (for example, by replying to an email).

b) Website analytics

This Site is hosted on GitHub Pages, which provides basic traffic analytics (e.g., visitor counts, referring sites, popular pages) as part of its standard repository insights.

This Site may also use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages/issues are popular. If enabled, Google Analytics may collect:

• IP address (typically truncated/anonymized)
• Browser and device type
• Pages visited and time spent
• General geographic location (city/region level, not precise location)
• Referring website or search terms

Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. See Section 4 below.

c) Information you send me directly

If you email me, reply to a newsletter issue, or contact me some other way, I'll have whatever information you choose to share in that message (e.g., your email address, name, and message content).

3. How I use this information

• To send you newsletter issues you've subscribed to
• To understand overall readership trends (e.g., which topics resonate) via aggregate analytics — I don't track individual reading behavior
• To respond to messages you send me
• To keep the Site running and troubleshoot problems

I do not sell your information, and I don't use your email for anything other than the newsletter itself.

4. Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to distinguish visitors and sessions. You can:

• Opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
• Block or delete cookies through your browser settings (this may affect how the Site functions)

This Site does not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking.

5. Who I share information with

• HubSpot — stores and sends your subscriber email on my behalf, and provides email engagement data (opens/clicks), under HubSpot's Privacy Policy.
• GitHub Pages — hosts this Site and provides basic traffic analytics; GitHub's servers may also log standard web request data (like IP address) as part of normal hosting operations. See GitHub's Privacy Statement.
• Google (Google Analytics) — if enabled, processes visitor analytics data under Google's Privacy Policy.

I don't share your information with anyone else, and I don't sell it.

6. How long I keep information

• Your email address stays in the newsletter list until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it.
• Analytics data is retained according to Google Analytics' standard retention settings.

7. Your choices and rights

• Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime using the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting me directly.
• Request deletion of your email address from my records by emailing me at willzhengai@gmail.com.
• California residents: you may have rights under the CCPA to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion. Given this is a small personal newsletter that doesn't sell data, most CCPA obligations for "businesses" don't apply, but I'll honor reasonable requests regardless.
• EU/UK visitors: while this Site's primary audience is in the US, if you're located in the EEA or UK, you may have rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR (access, correction, deletion, objection to processing). Contact me and I'll do my best to accommodate your request.

8. Children's privacy

This Site is not directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

9. Changes to this notice

I may update this notice occasionally as the Site evolves (e.g., if I add a comments feature or change email providers). I'll update the "Last updated" date above when I do.
